I love the idea of BB creams. Who doesn’t want a skin cream that does it? But I have yet to find one of these miracle beauty balms that works for me. Either the color is off or the finish is too matte.
Now, tinted moisturizers, that’s a different story. I’ve hit on a couple that I love and, honestly, I’m not sure of the difference between the two.
Case in point: Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint.
Oh. So. Pretty. A lightweight tinted moisturizer, this Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner has an ever-so-slight shimmer that brightens the complexion with a dewy glow. The light-diffusing minerals use the power of light deflection to hide acne scars, dark patches and “life lines.” (I refuse to use the word “wrinkles.”). And when you’re my age (don’t ask), any and all illusions of youth are welcome.
It gets better. The oil-free, fragrance-free tint has SPF 20 UVA and UVB protection and is spiked with antioxidants such as ginseng and ginkgo biloba leaf extract to protect skin against further environmental damage (aka, aging). See what I mean? Who needs a BB cream?
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint comes in seven illuminating colors from Opal to Deep Bronze. My perfect shade happens to be Glow but when I’m sportin’ a spray tan, I mix it with a dab of my darker foundation. On days that I only want a hint of color, I mix in my daily non-tinted sunscreen. This helps the product last longer too (yes, I’m cheap!).
While I’m at it, Jouer has a couple other key products that I’ve been crushing on. Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss: Fabulous (Nude is the perfect shade to complement any lipstick color and Peony is a delicious pink). Jouer Highlighter: Totally worth it if you're a cheekbone contour connoisseur. Jouer Age-repairing Brightener: Where have you been all my life?
Apparently, Jouer Cosmetics is so hot that Kate Spade had Jouer makeup stylists backstage at New York Fashion Week to complement her 70s-high-style-inspired Fall 2013 collection. These party glam looks were created by Jouer national makeup stylist Neil Scibelli to complete the collection's edgy, vivid color palette.
So what makes Jouer Cosmetics tick? As the playful name implies (jouer means “play” in French), the simple yet fashion-relevant collection is meant to invite play with timeless, approachable colors and innovative, advanced formulations. Founder and creative director Christina Zilber has a “no makeup artist required” philosophy that empowers the typical makeup dabbler to create fresh, pretty looks that bring out our best features.
