Curl up with Ouidad: Help for Curly Hair

11/08/2012 by Katarina Kovacevic

curly hair products

I’ve tested a handful of curly hair products over the past few months and have found a haircare routine I’m sticking to. Ouidad touts itself as “The Curl Experts,” and it’s true! Here are the products that I’m using on a regular basis.

Ouidad Water Works Clarifying Shampoo ($15)

It can take a lot of product to tame my hair and that leads to gross build up. Ouidad’s Clarifying Shampoo removes these dulling residues, as well as water deposits and chlorine. I use it once a week – usually on DIY Sunday! – for a fresh hair start. The shampoo helps to restore manageability and shine, eliminating the coarseness that can accompany curly hair. Just work the suds into wet hair and scalp, leave in for 2 minutes while you go about your business, and rinse. It’s easy!

Ouidad Climate Control De-Frizzing Shampoo & Conditioner ($15 and $20)

This sulfate-free, frizz-control duo is great for all hair types but works especially well for curly Q’s. It’s potent (and expensive!), so you don’t need much. Both the Ouidad shampoo and conditioner have a clean scent that lasts well through the next day, so your hair will look and smell fresh longer. I was using the products all throughout monsoon season, and was especially grateful for its humidity shield attributes. What’s really great about Ouidad’s shampoo and conditioner is that it helps tame frizz and flyaways, but it’s a totally weightless formula and that means your hair won’t feel or look greasy!

Ouidad Curl Quencher Intense Curl Cream ($26)

This product is specifically designed for tighter curls, so I use it sparingly and save it for the times when I want defined curls vs. loose waves. I also use a very small amount because otherwise it can weigh down your hair and look slightly greasy. But once I figured out the portion size, it worked wonders! My curls were soft, smooth and looked totally healthy – even after drying and some light styling. We’re talking silky strands. It’s the perfect touch because it defines curls but still allows for a flexible and bouncy style.
