According to author Kimberly Snyder, C.N., all is revealed in her book, The Beauty Detox Solution: Eat Your Way to Radiant Skin, Renewed Energy and the Body You’ve Always Wanted. The book’s main premise is simple: diet affects our skin and overall health; follow the detox and you will eliminate toxins to create a more healthy, beautiful you.
With praise from Dr. Mehment Oz, Drew Barrymore, Owen Willson and Olivia Wilde, The Beauty Detox Solution definitely had me intrigued. It’s broken up into two parts – the first part explains the beauty detox basics while the second part outlines the phases and diet of the plan. Essentially, Snyder promotes a meat-free diet rich in plant-based foods. If you’re not ready to give up that steak just yet, the program is flexible and allows you to include meat items (phew!).
The book also explains that the way to look and feel your best is by eating 80% alkaline-forming foods – ripe fruits, greens, sprouts, non-starchy vegetables, and 20 percent acid-forming foods – basically everything else like alcohol, animal protein, caffeine, dairy and refined sugar.
According to Snyder, the wrong food pairings also wreaks havoc on your health and skin. For example, she believes fruit should only be eaten on an empty stomach and that proteins and starches should not be mixed.
Not sure if you’re ready to commit to the detox? Start small by increasing the amount of veggies in your diet and by incorporating some of Snyder’s best beauty foods like figs, avocados, kale, lentils, pumpkin seeds and almonds. After all, there is no harm in eating healthy, nutritious foods.
