Call to Duty: The Proactiv Anti-Acne Arsenal

Proactive Acne Arsenal

Breakouts aren’t just for teenagers. As someone who’ll be celebrating another 39th birthday soon, I’m no stranger to the untimely appearance of hormonal or stress-induced pimples. And while my bathroom vanity is cluttered with a variety of anti-aging skincare products, I do have a few key anti-acne potions in my arsenal ready for those special occasions.

First line of defense is the Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash. At the first hint of a breakout, I rotate this into my daily cleansing regimen, usually at night. The product has a fresh scent and tiny exfoliating beads that leave skin squeaky clean but not feeling stripped of moisture. The 2% salicylic acid is key to keeping pores clean and clear and breakouts to a minimum.

But when breakouts do rear their ugly heads, it’s time for the big guns. The Proactiv+ Skin Smoothing Exfoliator used in conjunction with the Proactiv Refining Mask is truly no match for acne, and it works for me every time to quiet down flair-ups and quickly heal pimples.

The creamy Skin Smoothing Exfoliator has a marked medicinal scent attributable to the 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide – you definitely know it’s working as you massage it on the skin. The exfoliating beads deeply cleanse and prep it for the Skin Refining Mask.

The thick, whitish Skin Refining Mask definitely has a sulfur smell and is not the sexiest of products, but it sops up oil and clears up breakouts like nobody’s business. Once you’ve let it dry thoroughly and rinsed it off, your skin will have a faint sulfur smell for a few hours indicating that it’s still working.

You may notice a  bit of dryness over the next day or two. But the good news? Bye-bye breakouts … until next month anyway!

You can purchase individual Proactiv skincare products at proactivcatalog.com, kits at proactiv.com and Proactiv+ products at proactivplus.com.
